Tokyo Game Show 2010 Part 2

After a bit of shopping in the retail section as told in Part 1, we ventured to the main dish of the event.

We started with the Konami booth. Konami booth is the first one you see as you enter the convention hall. It has a bright red roof and display screens and demo TVs are strategically placed facing outward. Here’s a bad picture of me with James in front of the booth.

There were also a drone of people queuing for hands on demo time around the Konami area. Lots of them. Here’s the crowd for Winning Eleven 2011 demo.

James is all about soccer games. So he was all excited to test Winning Eleven 2011 even though he prefers the FIFA series. Holly Molly. The queue time was a bit insane.

Japan – The Strange Country

Japan-The Strange Country (English ver.) from Kenichi on Vimeo.

‘Japan – The Strange Country’ was created by Kenichi Tanaka for his final thesis video. Japan is described as a densely populated nation with prosperous short and chinky eyed people, who love to gorge in luxury and food. They are so consumptive that they made blue fin tuna an endangered animal almost single handedly and had strained China’s forests to supply wood to make their disposable chopstics. Of course these and other information in the video is explored shallowly and seldom compared to appropriate statistics, making them biased. It surprised me. But, Tanaka himself is aware of it and call it a propaganda. I agree. It is.

The video will give you great fact about Japan, but it is not be the right vehicle for you to use in order to understand the country.

Cute Nissin 110th Anniversary TV Commercial by Studio Ghibli

Nissin chose Ghibli to create a TV ad for their 110th Anniversary. They had chosen well. The studio’s first attempt to create animation based entirely on brush calligraphy is a big success and super cute too.

I mean… much better than this Nissin commercial:

Glamorized Kung-fu Movie style!! Nice concept, nice song, great choreography in some parts… BUT… some parts are kind of awkward AND the girl with the mask is creeping me out~~~

Tenorikuma Video Cuteness

Tenorikuma are cute little bear baristas that can fit into the palm of your hand. Even though they are small they work together to make you delicious coffee. Sanrio goodness!

Three movie makers, Aoki Jun, Kato Yo, and Music Love Japan created a cute 5 minutes clip of these little bears working in their cute cafe. A strike of cute genius! And the background song, “Moji Moji” by Serani Poji really complement the video. (I am going to hunt for her CD.) Good job guys!
